Business success leads to bestselling Mom Magic – The Royal Gazette

The book is called Mom Magic. Bermudian Kelli-Sue Miller is one of the six “inspiring women” who wrote it. All entrepreneurs, each shared how becoming network and affiliate marketers set them up for financial independence and flexibility – and how it could do the same for others.

Their stories moved Mom Magic to the top of the charts on Amazon worldwide.

“Gone are the days of misconceptions about pyramid schemes and shady dealings. In this anthology, you’ll discover the real power of affiliate marketing, a sales model leveraging affiliates to amplify product or service awareness online, earning commissions from resulting sales or leads,” part of the book’s synopsis reads.

“On the other side, network marketing thrives on person-to-person sales within a distributor network, where successful moms have transformed into advanced sales professionals building legitimate businesses.”

It’s a dream come true for Ms Miller, a former drug addict who was once embarrassed that she didn’t graduate from high school.

Three years ago she signed up with B-Epic and launched her own business selling health, detox, lifestyle and fitness products.

“It was introduced to me by a girlfriend from Bermuda so it carried a lot more weight,” said Ms Miller, who felt her previous work with an advertising agency and as a car salesperson gave her the experience she needed to do the job.

“I kind of had my feet wet even though this is very, very different in a lot of ways. But I tried the products and I will not put my name behind anything that I have not tried and tested and that I completely believe in.”

Coincidentally, menopause had left her with weight that she was trying to unload and she was looking for something to help with her ADHD as the medicine prescribed by doctors was “a stimulant” and “highly addictive”.

What impressed her most was that the B-Epic product line was “natural and plant-based”.

“For me that was really paramount,” she said. “I’ve spent far too many years putting substances in my body.

“This helped so much in so many areas of my life and then I found that there was an opportunity to make a living, whether it was just part-time or a second income.”

She went out on a wing and a prayer but somehow it worked. Ms Miller has a team of 17 working for her in Bermuda along with people in the US and Canada.

That the work offered the potential to earn a 50 per cent sales commission and that there were no sales targets wasn’t all she found appealing.

“It wasn’t just about the promise. It was about the company. It was about the fact that it’s family-owned; that their drive was to help people with their health and wellness.

“They mass produce these products and send them out worldwide but they mass produce so they can keep the prices down, so that they are affordable.

“The ingredients are very high quality – because I’ve done my research – but they also have a panel of world-renowned doctors that formulate [them].

“The money is a blessing but I do this because I love these products and I want other women, especially women in menopause, (to reap the benefits).”

Facebook helped build her business. Ms Miller, who now lives in the US, shares stories of her recovery on social media in hopes of helping even just one person who “maybe doesn’t know how to find recovery”.

Her focus is women, especially. Ms Miller believes that women suffering from drug addiction or alcoholism here have fewer helping resources than men and what exists isn’t great.

“Addicts struggle with being told what to do at the best of times, and to have somebody trying to tell you or guide you on what you should do that has never experienced the hell that we go to just doesn’t work. So overseas treatment was the only option for me,” she said.

Her posts drew the attention of “an entrepreneur-driven” online magazine and the publishing house of Mom Magic: Moms Mastering Network and Affiliate Marketing.

It wasn’t her first stab at public writing. At the invitation of an American friend in recovery Ms Miller contributed a short story in 2020 about how she was impacted by the pandemic and all its social restrictions.

Not only did she enjoy it but it was well received.

“I was not always a drug addict. I actually kind of ventured into that late in life … post-partum depression kind of drove me there and also ADHD.

“I was looking for something just to stop the madness and give me some sort of relief. And so they reached out to me and they were like, you really need to tell your story.”

Her daughters, who are her “biggest cheerleaders”, insisted that she do it.

“I have to ask them because they’re part of that as much as I want to put myself out there in hopes of helping,” Ms Miller said. “My children are part and parcel of my journey and they are so on board. They’re my motivation. I’m so grateful.”

She loves that the book highlights successful women entrepreneurs and the struggle mothers often have in choosing between “having a career and being present for their children”.

Also important to her was that it gave her the chance to “smash that negative vibe that’s out there about network marketing”.

“I think when people see network marketing they think Ponzi scheme. A lot of people throw those words around without even knowing what they are and what the difference is for network marketing.

“Am I saying that every company that is categorised as network marketing is what I understand it to be? Probably not. This is my very first networking company that I’ve ever been in and I got very blessed that it was introduced to me.”

B-Epic products helped her with weight loss, sleeplessness, night sweats and all the issues linked to menopause. They help with gut health and eased the symptoms of the herniated disc Ms Miller suffered from.

“I couldn’t even exercise. I now go to the gym and walk 10,000 to 12,000 steps a day; I have a lot of women that have arthritis that are on one of our products … I just can’t say enough.

“I have direct access to the owners of this company. A lot of owners do not make themselves accessible.”

Ms Miller, who entered the workforce at 16, has never been confident in her writing skills. For this project she was thrilled to be able to call on a Bermudian friend who lives in Canada for help.

“I come from a family that speak very well and are educated, but you know, I’m never that confident. I just kind of write how I think; it just comes from the heart.

“But I have a very beautiful friend, her name is Crystal Simmons and her feedback really shocked me. She was like: ‘You did it, fantastic!’ I mean, she made a few little tweaks but she gave me a lot of confidence as well.”

All the authors of Mom Magic have “amazing stories” that have contributed to the book’s success, Ms Miller said.

“It’s an e-book so it’s easily accessible. It doesn’t cost very much at all but also, I think it’s really, really inspiring.

“I have to pinch myself. I’m so blessed by so many amazing people on my Facebook page that really are so supportive.

“I don’t believe in constantly sharing about things and shovelling them down people’s throats.

“I shared about it the other day and I really didn’t think I was going to get loads of feedback [but] people were coming back instantly: ‘We just read it, it’s fantastic.’ And it’s the number one bestseller in seven categories on Amazon. And that’s not just Amazon USA, that’s Amazon worldwide.”
