500 Host Exceeded Error Analysis By Carolyn Holzman (GSC October 21, 2023)
Analyist & SEO Expert Carolyn Holzman Shares Report Of Her Recent Testing Results Surrounding The "500 Host Exceeded" Error Message That Started Around October 16th, 2023
Around October 16th, 2023 web developers worldwide started noticing crawling and indexation issues within their Google Search Console dashboards. With no explanation yet by John Muller or other Google Reps, it left most web developers panicking and scouring the web for answers.
Carolyn Holzman, a renowned data analysis and SEO expert who was recently one of the Keynote Speakers at the YACSS SEO Conference in Denmark this year … was on top of the issue as soon as it started developing.
Holzman has spent the past several days testing and analyzing the data from several affected websites across varried platforms, hosts, page builders, etc. to see if she could get to the root of the issue.
To the relief of SEO’s and Web Developers everywhere, Holzman published a report on her data analysis and current tests to find a solution to the crawling and indexation issue on her website AmericanWayMedia.com, and will continue to publish her findings (and potential fixes) as her tests continue over the weekend.

Holzman stated in her post, “If you do a quick google search for 500 Failed Host Exceeded error message, it will bring up a mixture of old and new recommendations for a “fix” … but none of them work.
From those recommendations, we can glean what may have worked as a solution in the past. Unfortunately, as developers, we always think WE did something wrong before we even consider that it might not actually be our fault, which is why I decided to start breaking down the data and running tests of my own to try and find a resolution that would work.
But we’re not looking for an academic definition, we want a solution, which I’m hoping these tests will provide to the community.”
Holzman will keep her report updated this weekend as new data and resolution tests are made. RealTech Magazine will update this post as she does, but interested readers can read the report and follow along with Holzman’s tests here:
